Lift the Load for mental health awareness

Another intwo initiative to support a cause close to our hearts

As the world rolls on from one disaster to another, it’s little wonder mental illness is sadly growing in our societies. With national suicide rates on the incline, it’s a worrying factor and can, all so often, be prevented.

Alarmingly, suicide is the biggest killer of males aged 15 to 44, and when 75% of mental health issues emerge before the age of 24, it starts young. We need to do more than simply to tell them “it’s okay to not be okay”. We need to show them that they alone don’t have to carry the heavy weight of poor mental health on their shoulders. There is help readily available.

As part of the intwo initiative to give back to causes we believe and support in, we have signed up for the Lift the Load Challenge during October. The Lift the Load Challenge, created by the good folk at Top Blokes Foundation, asks you to walk in the shoes of those struggling with poor mental health, by symbolically and literally carrying that weight. By Lifting the Load, you can help to lift theirs. The goal is to wear a 10kg weighted vest across 50km through October, to help in raising vital funds to help Australia’s young men improve their mental health.

Why is this cause special to intwo?

Most people will have either faced their own challenges or know someone struggling in this space. Both Bryn and Brett have witnessed close hand how mental health can affect people and sadly lead to more devastating consequences. It can start as something small and menial but can quickly grow out of control and more often than not, especially in males, it can be hidden until it’s too late.

intwo’s aim has always been about helping the planet and people where we can. By adjusting our mindset and making changes no matter how small, we believe we can help shift the balance in a positive way. By taking on the Lift the Load Challenge we intend to do just that.
